Murmuring, complaining, gossiping, boasting about ourselves... 1 Timothy 5:13; James 4:16; Jude v.16

A list of our human tendencies toward being unthankful and instead finding fault with persons, places, and things could be long.

Don't most of us take for granted common blessings?

Rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, and our hearts [not just our daily bread for our bodies] Matthew 6:11 are filled with food and gladness. Acts 14:17

Sunshine, birds, flowers, Matthew 5:44-45; 6:26, 28-29 and more can be experienced for free. Psalm 19:1; 1 Corinthians 3:21-23

Have we been particularly blessed, saved from destruction, forgiven for so much, Luke 7:47; 1 Timothy 1:15 and crowned with more good things than we deserve? Psalm 103:1-6

The Bible has an incident that may help us to stop and say, "Thank you, Lord."

And as He [Jesus] entered into a certain village, there met Him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: and they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

And when He saw them, He said to them, Go show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?

There are not found that returned to give glory to God, except this stranger. And He said to him, Arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole. Luke 17:12-19

Note the actions of the man cleansed from that skin disease --

He glorified God with a loud voice, fell on his face, and gave Jesus thanks. Luke 17:15-16

No pastor or other leader told him to do these things. He wasn't in a religious or spiritual meeting at that time to be influenced by them.

There wasn't any peer pressure either because he was the only one who left the group and returned to Jesus.

Maybe true worship, praise, and thanksgiving are only when they come spontaneously from a sincere and grateful heart. John 4:23-24
