Selective exposure - Selective perception

These concepts can be applied broadly to consumer behavior, relationships, and even spiritual truths.
The diffusion of innovation theory seems to have been developed by E.M. Rogers and contains these ideas.
People who are NOT interested in spirituality or certain types of it, learn to limit their exposure.
They don't watch, listen to, or read materials that contain spiritual truth: this is selective exposure.
Then, if they somehow come in contact with spiritual truth, it "goes in one ear and out the other" without sticking.
This is selective perception.
Without something spiritual staying within a person, it usually is difficult to see any positive change in their thoughts, words, or actions.
Does this matter?
What can be done to overcome selective exposure and selective perception?
Your thoughts?
