There's no "I" in Jesus

Peter told Jesus that he and the other apostles had left all to follow the Lord.
"What will we get therefore?" Matthew 19:27
Peter, an individual with an "I" interest in a reward, was NOT told by Jesus that neither he nor the other followers would get anything.
Rather, Jesus explained, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms on account of My name, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life." Matthew 19:28-29
Various beliefs about present and future rewards exist.
Sometimes people are confused --
"Should I expect any good in this life or is it all in the future?"
"Is it selfish to want some benefit now for me as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ?"
As someone has said, "If the Good Samaritan didn't have anything, he couldn't have helped the robbed and beaten man." Luke 10:30-37
A maturing, spiritual person might think, "I could study the Bible and find out what all of the Scriptures say about present and future rewards. Then I wouldn't have to take anyone else's word for it."
Sounds like a plan.
Some verses to get us started --
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son [Jesus], but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:31-32
So then, no one is to be boasting in people. For all things belong to you [followers of Jesus], whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas [Peter], or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. 1 Corinthians 3:21-23
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ. For He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and unblemished in His sight in love. Ephesians 1:3-4
We can follow Jesus with "I" put in the proper, spiritual place.
