The Lord Jesus Christ told His first disciples, "In the same way, you must give up everything you have to be My follower." Luke 14:33

Peter said, "Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed You; what shall we have therefore?" Matthew 19:27

Therefore, what do WE get?

This might be the primary motivation for what we do in life.

What do we get as a reward for doing this or that?

Most of what we do, isn't it because we expect something good for it in return?

A paycheck, a high grade, or a compliment?

What do we get, therefore, since we put effort into a project, used creativity, or showed love?

What is our reward?

Consider some of these rewards to see if they're good enough for you.

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, when the age to come has arrived, the Son of Man will sit on His great throne. All of you who followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And all those who have left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, children, or farms to follow Me will get much more than they left, and they will have life forever. Many who are first now will be last in the future. And many who are last now will be first in the future." Matthew 19:28-30

What, then, is my [Paul's] reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:18

And I [Paul] will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. 2 Corinthians 12:15

The answer is, if you eat or drink, or if you do anything, do it all for the glory of God. Never do anything that might hurt others—Jews, Greeks, or God’s church— just as I [Paul], also, try to please everybody in every way. I am not trying to do what is good for me but what is good for most people so they can be saved. 1 Corinthians 10:31-33

Jesus sat down and called the twelve apostles to Him. He said, “Whoever wants to be the most important must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35

Now He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “Whenever you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor wealthy neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you to a meal in return, and that will be your repayment. But whenever you give a banquet, invite people who are poor, who have disabilities, who are limping, and people who are blind; and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14

Behold, I {Jesus] am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his work deserves. Revelation 22:12

So do not judge before the right time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light things that are now hidden in darkness, and will make known the secret purposes of people’s hearts. Then God will praise each one of them. 1 Corinthians 4:5

When He [Jesus] had finished washing their feet [His disciples], He put on His clothes and sat down again. He asked, “Do you understand what I have just done for you? You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that is what I am. If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash each other’s feet. I did this as an example so that you should do as I have done for you." John 13:12-15

When the followers stepped out of the boat and onto the shore, they saw a fire of hot coals. There were fish on the fire, and there was bread. Then Jesus said, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” John 21:9-10

Jesus said to them, “Come and eat.” None of the followers dared ask Him, “Who are You?” because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, along with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His followers after He was raised from the dead. John 21:12-14

Jesus called them together and said, “The other nations have rulers. You know that those rulers love to show their power over the people, and their important leaders love to use all their authority. But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a servant. Whoever wants to become the first among you must serve all of you like a slave. In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many people.” Mark 10:42-45

There are a lot of ideas here.
