Jesus said, This is the work of God. That you believe in Him Whom He has sent. John 6:28-29

A living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whom the Father has sent, 1 John 4:10 would appear to be the beginning point and the door John 10:7-9 that opens to all of the other works that a believer could do. Ephesians 2:10; Titus 3:14

We can believe because by grace [unearned and undeserved favor] we are saved through faith, not by works. Ephesians 2:8

If saved by our works, we might boast about them. Ephesians 2:9

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, Whom He richly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

Because of God you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God. In Christ we are put right with God, and have been made holy, and have been set free from sin. So, as the Scripture says, "If people want to brag, they should brag only about the Lord." 1 Corinthians 1:30-31

Don't we need to get the order right?

Believe in Jesus by the Father's grace, then do works that have been ordained for us to do. John 6:28

God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. Ephesians 2:10

In John's first letter, he may have written for those of us who wonder, "What about keeping the commandments of God?"

And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. 1 John 3:22-23

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and love one another.

Seems like good works to live in.
